New Steam Client Update: Razer Raiju V3 Pro Controller Support Now Available

Valve has released a new stable update to its Steam Client desktop application for Linux, macOS, and Windows, introducing several enhancements to Steam Input. Among the highlights of this update is the added support for the Razer Raiju V3 Pro controller, which is compatible with both PS5 and PC. Additionally, the update reinstates functionality for the Nintendo Switch 2 wired controller.

The new Steam Client update includes various settings updates. Users can now find the “Response Axis Style” feature within the Joystick Mode settings, alongside a toggle for the Gyro “Smooth Fine Movements” option. This update introduces a new Gyro to Joystick Deflection option that allows for more responsive control by dragging the center point when the controller reaches its maximum deflection.

Moreover, the update enhances the Steam Input API, particularly improving gyro behavior for the Hori Steam Controller and addressing issues related to the disconnection of controllers while using the controller configurator. For existing users, the Big Picture Mode now quickly reflects changes upon connecting a new controller and fixes discrepancies with controller glyphs in the library filters.

Notable features also comprise better handling for games using Steam DRM, such as Mafia II (Classic) and Football Manager 2012, and improved support for multiplayer connections in Source SDK games. The Library has been updated to allow advanced filtering based on language and accessibility features.

Finally, the Friends & Chat feature has been improved, adding new permissions for group chat interactions and a reporting option for unwanted messages.

For further details about this Steam Client update, refer to the patch notes. Users can install this update by navigating to the Steam menu and choosing the ‘Check for Steam Client Updates’ option.

Enhancements in the Latest Steam Client Update: Better DualSense Controller Support on Linux

Valve has released a new stable version of the Steam Client, which enhances compatibility for DualSense controllers on Linux systems. This update addresses a specific issue where connecting an idle DualSense controller could cause crashes on Linux. Additionally, it improves the High Contrast view for game list searches and the app filter panel.

Among the notable features, the update adds support for dual gyros for Nintendo Switch Joycons when used in combined mode. Other enhancements include the ability to switch tabs within the tabbed browser using CTRL+TAB and improved game recording performances for certain titles that utilize Vulkan rendering. Moreover, it introduces mitigations for the newly discovered Unity vulnerability, CVE-2025-59489, which prevents a game from launching through the Steam Client if a potential exploit is detected.

Streaming functionality has also been improved, addressing an issue where the streaming option might not respond when clicked. The in-game overlay received fixes for a crash that could occur in Direct3D 12 (D3D12) games, particularly when sections of the overlay were rapidly opened and closed. Further improvements were made to SteamVR, ensuring notifications properly appear after exiting VR mode.

For Windows users, the update adds detection for Secure Boot and TPM, which can be viewed under Help > System Information, and this data will be collected for the Steam Hardware Survey.

Players can easily update their Steam Client by accessing the Steam menu and selecting ‘Check for Steam Client Updates’. After downloading, simply click on ‘Apply and Restart’ to complete the installation of the latest version.

For more details about the changes introduced in this update, refer to the official Steam release notes.

DXVK 2.7 Enhances Gaming Experience for God of War, Watch Dogs 2, and Final Fantasy XIV

DXVK has released version 2.7, boasting improvements that enhance support for notable games such as God of War, Watch Dogs 2, and Final Fantasy XIV. This update arrives just weeks after the previous release, DXVK 2.6.2, and focuses on integrating the VK_EXT_descriptor_buffer Vulkan extension by default for newer AMD and NVIDIA GPUs, which is designed to decrease CPU overhead in numerous games.

Developers have noted that this feature is turned off for older GPUs due to potential performance issues, particularly for NVIDIA Pascal and older models, as well as certain AMD RDNA2 or older cards when using specific drivers. However, RADV users are not impacted by these issues.

In addition to the descriptor buffer improvements, DXVK 2.7 automatically activates memory defragmentation for Intel Battlemage and Lunar Lake GPUs, removes legacy features, and introduces support for planar video output views. Moreover, it ensures that all variables and shared memory in D3D11 shaders are zero-initialized by default.

Other enhancements include the implementation of the ID3DDestructionNotifier interface and adjustments that prevent listing Vulkan devices that lack the necessary features to operate DXVK. This version also optimizes the D3D9 StretchRect function for particular multisample Source Engine scenarios.

For users on AMD Polaris and Vega GPUs, DXVK now mandates the VK_KHR_maintenance5 Vulkan extension on Windows, while also better enforcing the driver-reported VRAM budget across discrete GPUs. This should boost performance in various Unity Engine titles, particularly for systems with limited VRAM.

DXVK 2.7 continues to extend support for multiple game titles, improving functionality for games like Astebreed, GTR – FIA GT Racing Game, LEGO City Undercover, and Wargame: European Escalation.

For a comprehensive list of changes included in this release, users can check the release notes on the project’s GitHub page. The updated version can be downloaded as a source tarball from the same link or from distribution repositories once they integrate the new release.

DXVK 2.6 Release: Enhanced NVIDIA Reflex Support and Game Improvements

DXVK 2.6, a Vulkan-based implementation that allows the use of Direct3D 9, 10, and 11 games on Linux through Wine, has been released with significant updates. One of its key features is the addition of NVIDIA Reflex support, designed for D3D11 games, including popular titles like God of War, Overwatch 2, and Quake Champions. The new version also improves Vulkan swapchain implementations and introduces support for the ID3D11On12Device1 interface, enhancing the efficiency of multisample resolves on tiling GPUs.

Although the inclusion of NVIDIA Reflex support is a welcome update, developers caution that it may not function in many Unreal Engine 4 games running in D3D11 mode due to certain functions not being called. As a workaround, using D3D12 for those specific titles is suggested.

The update also improves performance in a variety of existing games, notably Assassin’s Creed 3 / Black Flag, Watch Dogs, Stalker: Clear Sky, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, among others.

In addition to these enhancements, DXVK 2.6 addresses previous issues such as memory allocation errors from DXVK 2.5, crashes in AdvHD-based visual novels, and fixes related to D3D11 video processor view creation. Other bug fixes include resolution of race conditions that could lead to crashes during multi-threaded asset loading, incorrect texture bindings, and issues with half-rate Vsync.

For more detailed information, users can check the release notes on the project’s GitHub page where the source tarball is available for download. Users who installed DXVK via software repositories will need to wait for the updated version to appear in their distributions.

Steam Client Update: Enhanced Game Recording and Native Linux Gaming Improvements

Valve announced a new stable update for the Steam Client today, available across all supported platforms. This update addresses numerous bugs, introduces a built-in game recording feature, and enhances native gaming on Linux.

The standout feature of this update is Steam Game Recording, a new integrated tool designed for capturing and sharing gameplay footage. This tool operates in the background, allowing users to automatically record their gameplay and access their recordings through the new Recordings & Screenshots option found in the View menu.

“There are many ways to use this all-new set of features, from capturing your highlights to documenting entire campaigns. It’s easy to find, clip, and share your gameplay,” said Valve.

New Recordings & Screenshots section in Steam Client

Steam Game Recording settings

The latest Steam Client introduces several changes for Linux users, beginning with the default use of the Steam for Linux runtime 1.0 (scout) for running native Linux game titles, as opposed to the older runtime environment. This modification is expected to enhance compatibility across various Linux desktop environments.

If users prefer not to use this new setting, they can disable it by adding the -compat-force-slr off option in the Steam client command line. Furthermore, Steam developers now have the option to choose which Steam for Linux runtime to utilize for their native Linux game titles.

For gamers on Linux, the latest update to the Steam Client enhances the ability to identify and send commands to an already running instance of Steam. It introduces a -disable-screensaver-inhibit command line option, which prevents Steam from blocking the screen saver when user activity is detected.

Moreover, Steam will now always revert to X11 when the SDL_VIDEODRIVER/SDL_VIDERO_DRIVER environment variable is set to Wayland. Recent fixes for Steam Play have also been expanded to include third-party compatibility tools. Additionally, the global toggle to disable Steam Play has been removed from the UI, accurately reflecting that Steam Play is permanently enabled on Linux.

Among several bug fixes, the updated Steam Client resolves issues with slow startups on Linux systems where the loopback interface’s reverse hostname lookup does not correspond to localhost. It also fixes an issue where an incorrect DPI scaling factor was applied for systems running a non-GNOME session with an active gnome-desktop-portal service. Additionally, it addresses a crash that occurred when launching steamwebhelper and resolves some other common crashes.

Other significant changes include the reinstatement of remote installs through the Steam Client via the streaming dropdown, enhanced detection of other computers for streaming and peer downloading when utilizing a secondary wireless interface, support for AV1 video streaming on high-end systems for Remote Play, compatibility with wired Xbox controllers on macOS Sequoia, and the addition of Invert X and Invert Y support in Mouse Regions.

As previously highlighted, the latest update for the Steam Client resolves numerous bugs. For further information, be sure to check out the release notes. In the meantime, you can update your Steam Client to the latest version by navigating to the Steam menu and selecting the Check for Steam Client Updates option.

Steam Client Update: Now Featuring 150% Default Scale Factor for 4K Monitors on Linux

Valve has launched a new stable Steam Client update for Linux, macOS, and Windows which includes exciting new Steam Input features, in addition to numerous bug fixes.

For gamers using Linux, the latest stable Steam Client update alters the default scale factor from 200% to 150% on 4K monitors, excludes listing incompatible options under an application’s Compatibility settings, and boosts startup delays when operating in Flatpak environments.

This update also rectifies some factors causing steamwebhelper crashes, slow startup on overwhelmed systems, a glitch where the store tab would fail to display any content after maximizing the Steam Client window, a glitch where the Steam Client window might become unresponsive until resized, and a problem where Steam would try to run the Windows version of a title without utilizing Steam Play compatibility on Linux.

This new Steam Client update has enhanced Remote Play with support for full HDR to HDR streaming when streaming from a Windows PC making use of NVIDIA or AMD hardware acceleration to another Windows PC or Mac outfitted with an HDR display, amplified brightness of HDR streaming, improved streaming performance on newer AMD cards, and improved recovery from network disconnections prior to starting the stream.

Steam Input received a new Configurator feature called “Swap Left with Right” that lets you swap the behavior of the Left Stick and Right Stick, or Left Trackpad and Right Trackpad when editing a controller configuration. It also got three new Mouse actions, namely “Reset to Horizon”, “Turn Camera 360”, and “Turn to Face Direction”.

“The New Mouse actions all require Dots per 360 to be calibrated for any of them to be accurate. To do this, use “Turn Camera 360” in combination with either “FlickStick” or “Gyro to Mouse”, and make sure that one press of your “Turn Camera 360″ makes one 360 turn in game. If it does not, tune the Dots per 360 setting from the Controller Quick Settings menu. You do not have to use Gyro to Mouse or FlickStick after this step,” said Valve.

In addition, Steam Input received an “Invert Command Binding” option for FlickStick’s Outer Ring Command, an option to allow the FlickStick to trigger a Flick Turn, as well as Sony Dualsense and Dualshock Gyro Enable/Disable/Toggle “center touch” and “center click” options to help with certain Paddle Mods.

As previously discussed, this release fixes a number of bugs, so it’s recommended to update your Steam Client installations as soon as possible for a more stable and reliable gaming experience. To execute the update, navigate to the Steam menu, select the “Check for Steam Client Updates” option, and then hit the “Download” button, located on the right-hand side of the bottom notification bar in blue.

Xwayland’s Explicit GPU Synchronization Now Fully Integrated into XOrg Server

Significant progress was made today toward introducing explicit GPU synchronization, with the integration of a year-long request by NVIDIA to support explicit sync in the DRI3 and Present extensions, as well as the Xwayland implementation.

Just last week, KDE developer Xaver Hugl explained the importance of explicit synchronization in addressing persisting issues experienced by some Linux users. These issues arise when using an NVIDIA graphics card with proprietary graphics drivers on Wayland during gaming or other GPU-intensive tasks.

While the explicit sync protocol has been incorporated into the Wayland protocols, it still requires implementation in several components, for instance, Wayland compositors and the proprietary NVIDIA driver. This will ensure a seamless experience when using an NVIDIA GPU on Linux.

NVIDIA’s proposal to introduce explicit GPU synchronization in the DRI3 and Present extensions, including an implementation for Xwayland, was finally merged into the XOrg Server today, after a year’s wait. The significance of this lies in Xwayland’s continued use for backwards compatibility with X11 apps on Wayland sessions.

“While we at NVIDIA may be particularly keen to have this in place, since our driver lacks implicit sync support, a general consensus seems to be forming around the idea that explicit sync is the best path forward for the Linux graphics stack,” said Erik Kurzinger. “Having both X11 and Wayland use a similar mechanism for explicit sync will simplify development for client-side drivers.”

Now, all that remains is for NVIDIA to release a new version of their proprietary graphics driver that finally supports the explicit sync protocol. As you can expect, this would open the door for more users, especially gamers, to switch to Linux, as graphical glitches will be a thing of the past.

The latest GNOME 46 desktop environment already ships with explicit sync support, which should also be implemented in the upcoming KDE Plasma 6.1 desktop environment release, due out in mid-June 2024.
