Battlefield 6 Launches Today: No Support for Linux or SteamOS Users

Just a reminder that Battlefield 6 launches today but will be unplayable on any Linux system due to EA’s latest anti-cheat system, EA Javelin. This marks a continued trend where EA games with online features, such as skate. and titles from the Battlefield series, including EA Sports FC and Madden, are incompatible with Linux platforms, as clearly stated on our dedicated anti-cheat page.

While Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 have been accessible on Linux thanks to older technology, newer titles remain out of reach. NVIDIA GeForce NOW presents an alternative, allowing play in a browser with lower quality or via a dedicated application on the Steam Deck, which is compatible with the new GeForce RTX 5080 servers for enhanced performance.

Looking ahead, there is hope that Valve might create a newer anti-cheat system with full Linux compatibility, but this solution hinges on broader market acceptance of Linux and SteamOS.

In related news, Electronic Arts has recently been sold off to various investors, including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
