The Mesa 25.1 open-source graphics stack has been officially released, marking a significant update with enhancements to various open-source graphics drivers and improved support for many video games.
One standout feature of this release is the fully mainlined Asahi driver, as its User API was integrated into the kernel. The Panfrost driver has added support for Mali G720/G925 GPUs, and the PanVK driver now includes support for YCbCr, dualSrcBlend, and Vulkan 1.2 for Mali v10+ GPUs. Notably, the Zink/NVK driver has replaced the deprecated nouveau driver as the default for NVIDIA GPUs.
Additionally, improvements were made to the V3D graphics driver utilized by Raspberry Pi devices, incorporating support for several extensions. The Radeon RADV Vulkan driver has new support for specific Vulkan extensions related to device memory reporting and sample locations, while the Etnaviv driver also gained added extensions for Vivante GCxxx series GPUs.
The PanVK driver received an extensive update, incorporating numerous Vulkan extensions that enhance performance, including depth-stencil resolve and advanced blend equation support exclusively for Mali v10+ GPUs. This version also introduces support for various shader formats and improved rendering techniques.
Mesa 25.1 not only enhances GPU performance but also improves the gaming experience for numerous titles.
