DXVK has released version 2.7, boasting improvements that enhance support for notable games such as God of War, Watch Dogs 2, and Final Fantasy XIV. This update arrives just weeks after the previous release, DXVK 2.6.2, and focuses on integrating the VK_EXT_descriptor_buffer Vulkan extension by default for newer AMD and NVIDIA GPUs, which is designed to decrease CPU overhead in numerous games.
Developers have noted that this feature is turned off for older GPUs due to potential performance issues, particularly for NVIDIA Pascal and older models, as well as certain AMD RDNA2 or older cards when using specific drivers. However, RADV users are not impacted by these issues.
In addition to the descriptor buffer improvements, DXVK 2.7 automatically activates memory defragmentation for Intel Battlemage and Lunar Lake GPUs, removes legacy features, and introduces support for planar video output views. Moreover, it ensures that all variables and shared memory in D3D11 shaders are zero-initialized by default.
Other enhancements include the implementation of the ID3DDestructionNotifier interface and adjustments that prevent listing Vulkan devices that lack the necessary features to operate DXVK. This version also optimizes the D3D9 StretchRect function for particular multisample Source Engine scenarios.
For users on AMD Polaris and Vega GPUs, DXVK now mandates the VK_KHR_maintenance5 Vulkan extension on Windows, while also better enforcing the driver-reported VRAM budget across discrete GPUs. This should boost performance in various Unity Engine titles, particularly for systems with limited VRAM.
DXVK 2.7 continues to extend support for multiple game titles, improving functionality for games like Astebreed, GTR – FIA GT Racing Game, LEGO City Undercover, and Wargame: European Escalation.
