The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) project has recently released GIMP 3.1.4, which is part of the upcoming GIMP 3.2 version. This new development release introduces several significant features such as link layers and vector layers, enhancing non-destructive editing capabilities.
The addition of link layers allows users to integrate external image files as layers in their projects. Meanwhile, vector layers enable the creation of shapes with adjustable fill and stroke properties. The release also unveils the GEGL Filter Browser tool that provides an organized view of all GEGL operations (filters) along with usage information. Furthermore, GIMP 3.2 now supports MyPaint version 2 brushes and introduces a Gain slider in the MyPaint Brush tool, which helps control brush pressure sensitivity.
Improvements in GIMP 3.2 include a revamped text tool, live outline color previews, and capabilities to import signed JPEG 2000 images, HRZ images, and non-DXT PAA textures. It now also supports the Seattle Filmworks formats, SFW93A and SFW94A, and enhances TIFF support particularly for files generated with Sketchbook.
Additional noteworthy updates feature a redesigned Animation Playback plug-in, better time format display based on system settings, the ability to disable animations according to those settings, and an option to input mathematical expressions in the Configure Grid dialog and Monitor Resolution preferences.
