Fwupd 2.0.17 Launches with Enhanced Support for Lexar and Maxio NVMe SSDs

Fwupd has released version 2.0.17, marking the seventeenth maintenance update to the open-source Linux firmware update utility. This update significantly enhances device support and introduces new features along with various bug fixes.

Among the newly supported hardware are the ASUS CX9406 touch controller, Framework Copilot keyboard, Primax Ryder 2 mouse, Lexar and Maxio NVMe SSDs, Huddly C1, and the Genesys GL352530 and GL352360 chipsets.

In addition to expanded hardware compatibility, fwupd 2.0.17 incorporates several new functionalities. These include support for client-side phased update deployments, post-quantum signatures, and the ability to clear the cache directory. A new command, fwupdtpmevlog, has been added to facilitate the dumping of raw event log data.

Additional enhancements include support for very old versions of UDisks, a rewrite of the fwupdmgr manpage for better usability, parsing capabilities for VSS and FTW variable stores from EFI volumes, and a fwupdtool command designed for working with deeply nested images. There are also improvements for building NVMe GUIDs derived from serial numbers.

Furthermore, fwupd now avoids showing reinstall prompts for composite devices, accurately matches historical composite components, and restricts PK or KEK updates if a test key is installed. It also relaxes checks for child devices when updating, ensures SCSI instance IDs are valid, and prevents the reboot of devices with pending installations.

This version resolves multiple bugs as well, including critical warnings during Jabra firmware parsing, crashes related to Ilitek parsing, race conditions in refreshing metadata, and hangs during chunk array creation.

For a complete overview, users can refer to the project’s GitHub page where the 2.0.17 release notes are available, and the software can be downloaded for installation. It is recommended to install fwupd from the stable software repositories of your Linux distribution.
