The GNOME Project has announced the release of GNOME 49.2, the second point release in the GNOME 49 “Brescia” desktop environment series, which introduces several bug fixes and enhancements. This update follows GNOME 49.1, released a month and a half earlier, and aims to improve user experience with features specifically designed for tiled monitors and sticky keys.
New functionalities in GNOME 49.2 include better handling of ignored modifiers for key and button grabs on X11, as well as extended layouts for the on-screen keyboard tailored for German and Austrian users. Users can now sort the session list on the login screen by display name, and memory usage from thumbnails has also been optimized. The zoom functionality in the Loupe image viewer has been updated so that a 300% zoom (Ctrl + 3, 3) now accurately reflects the intended zoom level.
Additionally, numerous bugs have been addressed: the lock screen notification setting for MPRIS clients has been fixed, along with issues related to network icon visibility during connectivity losses, and problems with VPN authentication helpers that caused zombie processes. Other rectifications involve resolving glitches in RTL locales, ensuring that gestures function correctly, applying KMS property changes without delay, and troubleshooting global keyboard shortcuts in Xwayland environments.
GNOME Software has also received updates, fixing visibility issues with version history for Flatpak apps and addressing bugs that impeded offline updates in GNOME Shell. The Epiphany (GNOME Web) browser has been modified to consistently display the action bar when in narrow mode and to properly decode URLs in the user interface.
