The Armbian project has launched a new utility called Armbian Imager, designed to facilitate the flashing of the Armbian operating system onto single-board computers (SBCs). This official tool supports over 300 SBC models, organized by manufacturer, and offers features such as smart filtering by type of Armbian build (stable or nightly) and system variant (desktop, server, or minimal).
Despite its compact size of just 15MB, Armbian Imager comes packed with features including device hot-swap detection, support for various image file formats including .img, .img.xz, .img.gz, .img.bz2, and .img.zst, and automatic exclusion of system disks during flashing. Additionally, it employs SHA256 verification to ensure the integrity of the written images and supports multiple languages—15 in total. An intuitive interface makes it simple to use, allowing users to flash an Armbian OS in just four steps: selecting the manufacturer, loading a custom image, choosing the board model, and selecting storage.
Currently, the beta version is available for public testing on GitHub, where users can download builds for Linux, macOS, and Windows. The tool also offers themes in light and dark modes, aligning with the user’s system preferences.
To use Armbian Imager, users will need Node.js version 20 or later and Rust version 1.77 or later if building from source, though using the pre-compiled binaries is recommended for most users. This utility aims to simplify the deployment of Armbian Linux on ARM-powered devices, though users should be aware that, as pre-release software, it may contain bugs that will be addressed before the stable launch.
