The KDE Project has announced the release of KDE Plasma 6.4.1, marking it as the first maintenance update for the KDE Plasma 6.4 desktop environment series. This update focuses on various improvements and bug fixes aimed at enhancing user experience.
A significant enhancement in this release is the improved readability of graph axis labels, which now comply with the WCAG AA standard. The text contrast for subtitles and other secondary labels throughout the desktop has also been improved, increasing overall accessibility.
Additional improvements can be found in KRunner and Discover, where the readability of list items has been enhanced when pressed or clicked. The Plasma Discover graphical package manager has been refined to eliminate whitespace in the search field, preventing errors from copy-pasting text with trailing spaces. Furthermore, the list views in Discover are now better navigable using the keyboard, and issues in the Settings window concerning a "Missing Backends" section have been rectified.
This maintenance update also addresses several bugs. For instance, issues within the Folder View widget, which affected item selection and opening under certain conditions, are now fixed. The clipboard pop-up (activated with Meta+V) will now correctly pre-select the top-most item. Other fixes include resolving a bug that affected direct scan-out on rotated screens and ensuring that the system does not lock or suspend sooner than intended after an app finishes its blocking activities.
Other enhancements include fixes to the Earth Science Picture of the Day wallpaper plugin, improvements in mouse hover behavior on the User Feedback page within System Settings, better installation support for new wallpaper plugins, and adjustments to the shortcuts page in the Clipboard settings.
