MKVToolNix has just released version 96.0, introducing several new features and bug fixes. A notable addition is the --no-bom command-line parameter, which allows users to prevent writing byte order marks (BOM) to text files encoded in various UTF formats. This addresses an issue that previously resulted in an unintended UTF-8 BOM when extracting subtitles using mkvextract.
In addition to the new command-line feature, the GUI multiplexer component has been enhanced with the inclusion of the <MTX_CHAPTERS_FILE_NAME> variable. This allows users to run programs after job completion, referring directly to the chapter file’s absolute path.
Version 96.0 also improves the functionality of the OBU reader in mkvmerge, fixing issues related to probing files and reading VobSub .idx files that begin with a BOM. Furthermore, AV1/IVF container support has been enhanced, addressing problems with frame rate calculations and ensuring the proper insertion of temporal delimiter OBUs when necessary.
