Linux Mint has recently rolled out two new tools aimed at enhancing user experience: System Information and System Administration. These tools were announced by project leader Clement Lefebvre in the October 2025 monthly newsletter.
The System Information tool is a rebranded version of the previous System Reports utility. It is designed to assist users in troubleshooting hardware issues by providing detailed insights into hardware components and media settings. The new tool includes four sections: USB, GPU, PCI, and BIOS, which display information about connected devices, graphics card capabilities, internal components, and motherboard specifications among others.
Alongside System Information, the System Administration tool has also been introduced. This utility allows users to manage Linux Mint’s boot menu settings, including the ability to hide or show the menu, set timeouts, and adjust boot parameters. Future updates to System Administration are expected to introduce additional features for system management.
Lefebvre emphasized the importance of having access to detailed information when seeking help for software or hardware issues, enabling users to communicate problems effectively.
In addition to these tools, the development team is working on the XSI (XApp Symbolic Icons) project, which aims to replace the existing Adwaita symbolic icons across all XApp, Cinnamon, and Linux Mint projects.
Moreover, there are ongoing efforts to upgrade the applications menu of the Cinnamon desktop environment, set to debut with the upcoming Linux Mint 22.3 release, which includes enhanced customization options for the search bar and system buttons.
