PorteuX 2.6 has been officially launched as the latest version of this Slackware-based distribution, designed for speed, portability, and modularity. This new release arrives two months after the previous version and introduces the updated Linux kernel 6.19.
PorteuX 2.6 supports various desktop environments including KDE Plasma 6.5.5, GNOME 49.4, Cinnamon 6.6, and more. This version enhances booting performance with automatic loading of Intel and AMD microcode in non-fresh modes and adds TLP, a utility aimed at optimizing battery life for laptops.
Moreover, it improves build flags for better efficiency and fixes multiple issues like the screensaver not blocking while videos play in Firefox and incorrect labels on LXDE desktop items. Various enhancements also extend to the COSMIC edition regarding GTK/Qt themes.
The update addresses numerous bugs, including problems with cryptsetup in the initrd and the galculator GTK 3-based calculator. It also brings the GNU C Library and Coreutils into the build pipeline.
