Raspberry Pi’s Tom Dewey has announced the release of Raspberry Pi Imager 2.0.3, the second update in the Raspberry Pi Imager 2.0 series, designed for cross-platform installation of Raspberry Pi OS and other operating systems to microSD cards.
This update, which follows two weeks after Raspberry Pi Imager 2.0.2, introduces several enhancements including bottleneck detection and real-time progress updates regarding network status, decompression, or write operations. It improves drive filtering and system identification logic on Linux while also enhancing asynchronous I/O support across all platforms.
Notable features of Raspberry Pi Imager 2.0.3 include a detailed write timing breakdown for performance analysis, CA certificate bundle detection for AppImage compatibility on non-standard Linux distributions, and support for NVMe over Fabrics. Additionally, the release implements a timeout mechanism for critical operations, robust network monitoring, and automatic retry logic for restoring network connections.
Other notable changes include the introduction of a confirmation dialog with a security delay for remote URLs, improved network operations through CurlFetcher, and support for the file:// protocol in cURL configurations. The app now also displays the custom repository host in the title bar to mitigate IDN homograph attacks and remembers user-selected language preferences across sessions.
This version refines cloud-init user data generation and offers debugging options for users experiencing issues with their storage cards, including detection for counterfeit storage devices that may hang during operations.
