The maintainers of the Tails anonymizing Linux distribution have released version 6.17, which includes modest updates rather than major new features.
Among the changes, the unlock dialog of the lock screen now offers the option to visibly display the entered password. This feature aims to reduce typing errors during password entry. Additionally, the uBlock Origin ad blocker extension for the Tor browser has been updated to version 1.62.0. The Tor browser itself has also been upgraded to version 14.5.4, which is based on Firefox ESR 128.12.0.
The Tails developers addressed a minor issue where the Tor Browser homepage was displaying when new tabs were opened in the "Unsafe Browser," a feature that allows direct online access without anonymization. This has now been changed to show a blank page instead. Furthermore, the developers have optimized memory usage by eliminating duplicate processor microcode from the images.
