As part of its routine updates, the software packages within Tails have also been upgraded. The Tor Browser is now using version 15.0.4, while the email client Thunderbird has upgraded to version 140.6.0. Furthermore, the Linux kernel is updated to version 6.12.63.
The update also addresses several operational glitches. For example, files encrypted with .gpg can now be opened again by double-clicking or selecting "Open with Kleopatra." Users unlocking VeraCrypt-encrypted drives will no longer experience desktop crashes from incorrect password entries. Consistent usage of the 24-hour time format has also been implemented across the top navigation bar and the lock screen for better user familiarity.
Notably, Tails has discontinued support for Bittorrent downloads due to security concerns arising from the transition from Bittorrent v1 to v2. The developers have opted out of migrating the old files, emphasizing that direct downloads from official mirrors are both faster and safer.
