Valve has unveiled three groundbreaking products: Steam Machines, the Steam Controller, and the Steam Frame VR headset. The announcement highlights their commitment to enhancing the gaming experience within the Steam ecosystem.
Steam Machines will run on Arch Linux-based SteamOS and be powered by a robust AMD Zen 4 processor with 6 cores and 12 threads, clocking up to 4.8 GHz. It features a semi-custom AMD RDNA3 graphics card with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM, alongside 16GB of DDR5 RAM and storage options of either 512GB or 2TB NVMe SSD. The devices will come with a KDE Plasma desktop environment and include various connectivity options, including HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, and multiple USB ports.
The new Steam Frame VR headset is designed as a wireless, streaming-first device that is compatible with the entire Steam library. It boasts a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 16GB of unified LPDDR5X RAM, and offers up to 1TB of UFS storage. The headset provides impressive visual performance with a 2160×2160 resolution per eye, a 144Hz refresh rate, and a wide field of view. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 for high-speed streaming and features a rechargeable battery.
Furthermore, the new Steam Controller includes advanced features such as haptic feedback, magnetic thumbsticks with capacitive touch, and an impressive battery life of up to 35 hours of gameplay.
