The new version specifically addresses issues with the Linux Guest Additions, resolving a problem where the VBoxClient would fail to start when running older kernels from the Linux 2.6 series. It also corrects a warning that appeared in the system log due to an incorrect udev rule and resolves an issue with ‘rcvboxadd status-kernel’ reporting incorrect status for older kernels.
For Linux hosts, significant fixes include a resolution for a kernel panic that could occur during bridged networking when using the ixgbe driver on newer kernels. There are also fixes for starting virtual machines with long names and addressing Guru Meditation errors in nested virtual machine scenarios.
Additionally, VirtualBox 7.1.12 improves the built-in recording feature, fixing a bug that prevented Windows guests from starting with recording enabled in display settings. It also enhances support for exposing AVX/AVX2 instruction sets to guests when Hyper-V is in use and resolves a few specific issues on Windows hosts.
