Exploring Mageia 10: Alpha Release Now Open for Public Testing

After extensive development efforts, the alpha release of Mageia 10 Linux distribution is now available for public testing. If you’re interested in assisting developers with bug fixes before the final version is ready, now is your chance.

Scheduled for an official launch in April 2026, Mageia 10 will mark three years since the release of its predecessor, Mageia 9. This version is powered by the long-term supported Linux 6.12 LTS kernel and comes with the KDE Plasma 6.5, GNOME 49, and Xfce 4.20 desktop environments.

The alpha contains the latest KDE Plasma 6.5.4 for the KDE edition, which is complemented by KDE Frameworks 6.21 and KDE Gear 25.12 software suites, all utilizing the Qt 6.10 framework. Notably, while the GNOME edition is designed to operate solely on Wayland, the KDE Plasma and Xfce editions maintain X11 session support for users who are not yet ready to transition to Wayland.

Mageia 10 includes the Mesa 25.1 graphics stack, providing support for Intel/AMD systems and NVIDIA GPUs embedded in the ISO images for a smooth out-of-the-box experience. Most default applications have been updated to their latest versions in this release.

As expected from Mageia, this upcoming release incorporates a standard setup wizard for configuring the keyboard layout, language, and time zone, as well as the Mageia Control Center, a legacy feature from its predecessor, Mandriva Linux.

Package management in Mageia 10 appears to utilize DNF 4.23 and RPM 4.20.1. To experience the alpha version, users can download the installation or live ISO images from the official website. However, it is important to note that this pre-release version is not suitable for production environments.

Mageia 10 is available in KDE Plasma, GNOME, and Xfce editions for 64-bit systems, while installation images for the Xfce edition are also available for 32-bit systems. Being a community-driven project, Mageia encourages users to report any bugs encountered here.
