Linux users are reporting that NordVPN is leaving them without internet access. Users on Reddit and GitHub say they encounter “server not found” errors when trying to connect. Reports span several distributions, including Linux Mint, Ubuntu, and Arch.
In some cases, NordVPN’s app indicates that the VPN connection is active, but websites won’t load and domain-name pings fail. One user said their internet worked normally after disconnecting from NordVPN but stopped working as soon as they reconnected.
NordVPN has acknowledged issues with its Linux application, according to a notice reportedly seen by a user on the company’s website. The notice said users may be unable to access the internet while connected. However, we could not independently locate that notice.
The problem appears to involve domain-name resolution rather than the VPN tunnel itself. NordVPN’s developers are reportedly preparing a permanent fix for version 6.0.0.
As a temporary workaround, users can open a terminal and run:
sudo resolvectl dnssec nordlynx off
Alternatively, they can set custom DNS addresses in the app. The DNSSEC change is temporary, so users should install the 6.0.0 update when it becomes available and review any manual network changes afterward.
