As of October 22, 2025, Canonical has released the first daily build ISO images of Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, codenamed "Resolute Raccoon," for early adopters, developers, and public testing. Previous daily builds were not functional, but this release marks a significant step forward.
These early builds are based on Ubuntu 25.10, which was released on October 9, 2025. Ubuntu 26.04 LTS is equipped with Linux kernel 6.17 and utilizes the GNOME 49 desktop environment. Over the six-month development cycle, users can expect frequent updates that will introduce new features and enhancements, including the upcoming Mesa 25.3 graphics stack, Linux kernel 6.19, and GNOME 50.
While the final version of Ubuntu 26.04 LTS is anticipated for release on April 23, 2026, the beta version will be available in early April and a Release Candidate (RC) will follow shortly before the final build. This version will receive five years of support until April 2031.
Users interested in testing the new features can download the first daily build ISO images from the official website. It is important to note that these are pre-release versions and may contain bugs, so they should not be installed on production machines. Ubuntu’s various flavors, including Kubuntu and Xubuntu, are also making their own daily builds available based on Ubuntu 25.10.
