The KDE Project has announced the release of KDE Plasma 6.3.5, marking the fifth and final maintenance update for the KDE Plasma 6.3 desktop environment. This update focuses on fixing various bugs, crashes, and issues reported over the past five weeks since the release of KDE Plasma 6.3.4.
Key improvements include resolving a black or flickering lock screen issue for NVIDIA GPU users, addressing visual glitches with window shadows when the Night Light feature is active on specific hardware, and fixing a crash in KWin caused by GPU resets. Moreover, an issue with the Activity Switcher sidebar mis-positioning on multi-monitor setups has been corrected.
The update brings significant attention to KWin, correcting a crash that occurred when disconnecting laptops from certain docking stations and resolving unnecessary screen repaints while the screen was dimmed. Support for multi-screen setups has also been enhanced, ensuring the UI accurately reflects the settings for each individual screen.
Additional improvements involve enhanced printing support, allowing users to set new printers as default upon adding multiple devices. The update supports Qt 6.8.3 and Qt 6.9, fixing issues related to notifications and the Plasma Discover package manager. Other enhancements include adjustments to the Task Manager widget to rectify pop-up rotation in vertical panel mode and improvements to the Weather widget’s display.
KDE Plasma 6.3.5 provides several fixes to notification rendering issues and improves visual elements in the System Settings. Users are encouraged to check their distributions’ repositories for the new packages to benefit from a more stable and reliable Plasma desktop experience.
