The System76 Pangolin is a light Linux laptop with an AMD Ryzen processor and an ample screen, first introduced in 2021. System76 has since upgraded the laptop multiple times, introducing enhancements such as quicker processors and superior displays.
A new version now comes from the company, enlarging the screen size from 15.6 inches to 16.1 inches and swapping last year’s Ryzen 7 6800U processor from last year’s model with a Ryzen 7 7840U chip for better CPU and graphics performance. Despite these enhancements, the new laptop still weighs less than 4 pounds. The new Pangolin laptop can be purchased from System76 starting at $1299.
The notebook has a reasonable size for a system with this extensive display, with dimensions of 371 x 248 x 18mm (14.6″ x 9.8″ x 0.7″) and a weight of 1.79 kg (3.95 pounds).
Internally, the AMD’s Ryzen 7 7840U chip is combined with 32GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory (firmly attached to the mainboard) and two M.2 slots which allow for up to 16TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage in total.
While the previous version boasted a 144 Hz display, the new System76 Pangolin (2024) has been equipped with a more standard 60 Hz display. Nonetheless, it maintains its 1920 x 1080 pixel matte display.
This laptop also features a 70 Wh battery, a 720p webcam, stereo speakers, along with an array of ports.
It offers support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, with an option of shipping with either Ubuntu or Pop!_OS Linux.
System76 is also in the wings to introduce a new version of the Darter Pro thin & light laptop, this time packed with a 14th-gen Intel processor.
