The team is introducing a steely blue tint to the existing ‘Mint Y’ gray theme, which is designed to modernize the overall appearance. Another significant aspect is the integration of GTK4/libadwaita applications, which are becoming more common and have a design language that aligns with the grey theme of Mint-Y. Additionally, Linux Mint is adapting its stance on GTK4 applications. Instead of downgrading or forking existing applications, it is exploring a compromise that allows for a cohesive aesthetic. The Mint-Y and Mint-X themes will gain custom stylesheets for libadwaita, ensuring that these newer applications better match the Mint environment.
