Ubuntu has introduced a significant update regarding its Long Term Support (LTS) versions. Starting from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr), Canonical will now provide an impressive 15 years of support through an extended legacy support program. Previously, Ubuntu’s support for LTS versions included five years of standard support, followed by five additional years of Extended Security Maintenance (ESM). This new initiative adds a further five years to that timeline, making it a total of 15 years for complete support. The extended legacy support will include security updates for the core Ubuntu base and key open-source components throughout this duration, ensuring critical vulnerabilities are addressed without the need for disruptive updates.
