This new version arrives four months after Audacity 3.7.5 and introduces several key updates including support for the latest FFmpeg 8.0 multimedia framework and the new Spectrogram Wavelet analysis feature. Additionally, users can now easily import audio files from audio.com thanks to the new “Import from audio.com” dialog.
Other notable enhancements include the ability to use middle-mouse drag panning over the track panel and to export audio files as OGG/Opus when using FFmpeg. Improvements have also been made to the importing of 16-bit FLAC files and functionality related to cloud audio uploads.
From a technical standpoint, the release includes updates to components such as cURL 8.17.0 and Wavpack 5.7.0. This particular version was built for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, but it should be compatible with virtually any Linux distribution. The AppImage has been tested successfully on openSUSE Tumbleweed and Ubuntu 25.10.
