Tails 7.4.1 has been released as an urgent update to address critical vulnerabilities in OpenSSL. These vulnerabilities pose a risk to users by potentially allowing a malicious Tor relay to deanonymize Tails users, making it essential for users to update their systems promptly.
The new release, Tails 7.4.1, enhances the OpenSSL library to version 3.5.4 to mitigate these security issues. In addition to the OpenSSL update, it upgrades the Tor client to version 0.4.8.22, and the Mozilla Thunderbird email client to version 140.7.0 ESR, which includes a fix for Gmail authentication. A user experience improvement has been added with a spinner when accessing Wi-Fi settings from the Tor Connection assistant.
Earlier in the month, Tails 7.4 was launched, introducing features that allow users to save preferences for language, keyboard layout, and formats directly to the USB stick so that these settings are automatically applied upon restarting Tails. This version also includes the Tor Browser 15.0.4, which is based on Mozilla Firefox 140 ESR and brings features like vertical tabs and a unified search button.
