Flipper Zero, known for being a viral security tool originally designed for vulnerability assessments and ethical hacking, is set to evolve with a new device called Flipper One. While the Flipper Zero gained attention for its ability to spoof security access systems such as RFID, the Flipper One aims to broaden its capabilities to include long-distance communication technologies.
Flipper, the company behind Flipper Zero, has revealed that Flipper One is not a successor but rather a new product designed to connect with any IP-based network, including 5G, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and NTN satellite connectivity. This advanced gadget operates on an open-source Linux-based platform, positioning it more like a traditional cyberdeck than just a simple tool for access emulation.
The company claims Flipper One will be “the most open and best-documented ARM computer in the world,” shipping with full mainline kernel support that allows for continuous software updates directly from kernel updates managed by Linux creator Linus Torvalds. Flipper is actively seeking collaboration with developers to build an independent platform, launching a Developer Portal to document all aspects related to the device.
Hardware-wise, Flipper One uses a dual-chip system, featuring a Rockchip RK3576 SoC with an 8-core CPU, a Mali-G52 GPU, and a dedicated NPU for running small on-device AI models, alongside 8GB of RAM. A Raspberry Pi RP2350 microcontroller complements the SoC, managing the display and other input controls.
Although the design is inspired by the Flipper Zero, Flipper One will be larger and more robust. The company is currently in the development phase and has not disclosed a timeline for availability, focusing instead on gathering support to fulfill the vision of an open Debian-based operating system.
