Today, the GNU Linux-libre project has announced the release of the GNU Linux-libre 6.16 kernel, catering to those who prioritize software freedom in their GNU/Linux systems. This version is based on the recently launched Linux 6.16 kernel series.
The key improvements include a cleanup of blob loading processes and an inline blob in newly integrated drivers for Intel’s QAT 6xxx crypto, ST vd55g1 sensor, ath12k AHB Wi-Fi, Aeonsemi AS21xxx, and MediaTek 25Gb Ethernet PHY. Furthermore, the update includes refined blob names within new Qualcomm and MediaTek ARM64 device tree files.
This release also enhances the cleansing processes related to Intel microcode loader documents and modifies various drivers including those for NVIDIA GPUs, Realtek r8169 Ethernet, and Qualcomm Iris and Venus video decoders, among others. Additionally, it contains a fix for the Rust firmware loader build and cleans up existing blob names for Intel VPU, AMD GPU, and btusb that had been backported during the development of the GNU Linux-libre 6.16 kernel.
