The Document Foundation has announced the release of LibreOffice 25.8.1, marking the first maintenance update in the LibreOffice 25.8 series. This update comes just nine days after the initial launch of LibreOffice 25.8 and addresses over 90 bugs and issues reported by users.
Among the significant fixes included in LibreOffice 25.8.1 are improvements to the NotebookBar UI and a resolution to crashes associated with opening documents in Microsoft Office formats. In total, the update resolves 94 bugs. Users are encouraged to refer to the comprehensive changelog for a complete list of fixes.
LibreOffice 25.8.1 is now available for download from the official website in both DEB and RPM formats for GNU/Linux distributions. Users who have installed LibreOffice 25.8 through their distribution’s software repositories should wait for the 25.2.1 point release before updating.
The previous version, LibreOffice 25.8, brought major enhancements such as PDF 2.0 export support, a 30% increase in file opening speed in Writer and Calc, optimized memory management, improved document scrolling, and revamped word hyphenation and spacing.
The LibreOffice 25.8 series will receive maintenance updates until June 12, 2026, with the next update, LibreOffice 25.8.2, expected in early October 2025. All users of the 25.8 series are urged to upgrade to LibreOffice 25.8.1 promptly.
