A new version of HandBrake, the popular open-source media conversion tool, has been released as a maintenance update. Version 1.11.2 focuses on fixing several issues from previous releases while enhancing its capabilities. This update comes after its earlier 1.11.x release in March 2026, which introduced significant features such as support for DNxHR and ProRes encoders, and compatibility with AMD’s VCN AV1 10-bit encoder for their 9000 series GPUs and newer.
In this latest version, two major bugs affecting 2-pass encoding operations have been resolved: one that caused crashes during lossless x265 encodes, and another that led to memory leaks when encoding with MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP9, and FFV1. Additionally, the integration for handling WebM files on Linux has been improved; users can now open WebM videos directly from the right-click context menu in their file manager.
The Windows and macOS versions of HandBrake have also seen improvements in how they handle unsupported presets. Windows specifically addresses issues with the automatic generation of audio track names.
