JFrog has released a proof of concept demonstrating this flaw, which shares similarities with previous vulnerabilities known as DirtyFrag and Fragnesia. All these issues stem from how the Linux kernel manages memory and socket buffers.
The exploits result from the kernel’s failure to adequately separate the page cache used for executing files from network packet data, allowing malicious users to manipulate memory tied to file-backed data. This particular vulnerability has a high CVSS score of 8.8 and was patched shortly after its discovery on May 24, 2026.
Although the initial patch addresses the immediate risk, systems lacking recent updates remain vulnerable. They are particularly at risk if they run kernels that lack the complete chain of fixes associated with the DirtyFrag family of vulnerabilities. Users on distributions with unprivileged user namespaces, like Debian, Fedora, and Ubuntu, are at significant risk, especially in shared environments like cloud services or Kubernetes clusters.
To mitigate this vulnerability, updating to the Linux kernel version v7.1-rc5 is recommended, as this version contains the relevant fixes to protect against potential exploitation via DirtyClone.
