Developers of Linux Mint have revealed several details about the forthcoming major release, with a launch anticipated in the early summer.
The next in line, Linux Mint 22, has been codenamed ‘Wilma’.
This codename doesn’t come as a major shock; with previous Linux Mint 21.x series codenames starting with the letter ‘V’, a shift to ‘W’ was predictable. There’s an abundance of women’s names starting with W that Mint could utilize in point releases, including Wendy, Winona, Wanda, Winnie, and Winifred.
Linux Mint 22 will be based on Ubuntu 24.04 as anticipated. Even though that base hasn’t been fully established (as its release isn’t due until April), Mint will adopt, exploit, and be advantaged by numerous of its modifications. The chances are high that it will include the Linux 6.8 kernel by default — but certainly not Linux 6.6 LTS!
